All trips are custom designed to suit your requests, as well as budgets. Accommodations from 3 star to deluxe 5 star, rental cars & vans, or motor coaches with driver/guides. SCOTLAND - ST. ANDREWS & THE SURROUNDING AREAS The region of Scotland undoubtedly best known for golf is the county of Fife - and in particular, St. Andrews - is also home to many other outstanding links style courses. Old Course at St. Andrews- dates back to the 15th Century. Although there are 6 courses at St. Andrews, the Old Course has the history as the "Home of Golf'. It features massive double greens, shared fairways and many pot bunkers (most of which were designed by nature and the sheep). Just finishing at the 18th green amphitheater is an unbelievable experience. In addition, there are The New and Jubilee courses, which require accurate iron play to their contoured greens. Both courses are also longer than their counterpart. The Jubilee was originally a 12-hole course built alongside the New, which opened over 100 years ago. The newest addition the Castle Course. Fairmont Hotel - 2 courses - Torrence - A traditional links-style layout with wide-open, windswept fairways, separated by thick rough - while offering dramatic views of the North Sea. The second course is called the Kittocks Course. Carnoustie - Of all the championship links, Carnoustie is possibly the most severe. It has been recently reinstated on the Open circuit and hosted the British Open Championship in 2007, where Padraig Harrington outlasted Sergio Garcia in a 3 hole playoff. On the five previous occasions Carnoustie was used, it produced champions of the highest caliber. With the wind so intolerant, the rough so devastating and the greens so fast, this is the complete test, both mentally and physically. Muirfield
- remains the #1 golf course in Turnberry - Ailsa Course - This is the more famous of the two courses here that golf architect Mackenzie Ross redesigned in the 1950’s. Since then it has hosted 4 Open’s (the 2009 Open was almost won by Tom Watson, but he was bested by Stuart Cink in a playoff). It is one of the fairest and most demanding tests of the golfer’s skill. A rigorous 6384 yards, it is seldom visited by “Lady Luck” and a good score must be justly earned. The second course is called the Kintyre Course, which was redone in 2006. Royal
Troon - Founded
in 1878, a stern, uncompromising test faces all golfers fortunate enough to
play here. The famous 123-yard 8th,
with the appropriately named Postage Stamp green, drops off quickly on three
sides and provides not only a super challenge, but quite a spectacle as well.
Frequently the venue for the Open. Crail Golfing Society is the 7th oldest golf club in the world. It is located in East Neuk of Fife, and is a classic links with some trees. It is laid out along the coast, with breathtaking scenery. Every hole is within sight of the sea. Leven & Lundin are two other links courses used as qualifiers for the Open, that offer a good test, as well as a host of beautiful views. There is an old railway line (now closed) that runs through the Lundin course and comes into play at many holes.
